Project Overview
The Brief
Create a Super Bowl LIVE experience giving fans a glimpse into the future of sports.
The Verizon 5G Experience Lab launched in Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park, anchoring the NFL's Super Bowl fan fest.
Fan Experience
Our 5G QB activation combines interactive LED targets, physical footballs and a real-time leaderboard to let fans compete for high scores while wearing a 5G-enabled VR headset.
We rigged each custom fabricated target with heavy duty triggers, then mapped over 2,750 LED pixels to sync animations across dual throwing bays, each tallying players' scores in real time.
Technology
5G QB turns the classic football toss ultra high-tech — and 5G-ready.
A 5G VR headset with a mounted camera live-captures first-person footage, instantly moving it through Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband network and back to the goggles.
Tablet controllers wirelessy activate a new game, set the clock to 30-seconds, and players compete in a test of speed and accuracy, throwing footballs at the LED targets in pursuit of the day’s top score.
Special Guests
We sped up the future of sports with help from the pros.
Throughout the week-long activation, NFL stars came through the experience to test their skills and discover how the 5G QB experience is a glimpse into their future training regimens.
Special thanks to Kansas City Chiefs WR JuJu Smith-Schuster and Running Back Steven Jackson for putting our activation to the test!
